Uneven Tire Wear can cause other issues also such as issues with your overall trailers suspension. By having the alignment out of whack it causes other areas to endure wear in ways that is not normal and this will cause stress and wear and tear and eventually could end up in overall major trailer problems. Worn bearings can be another issue you should look into. It’s important to realize that Undercarriage components like springs, bearings, bushings, load equalizers are what keep your tires aligned and working properly. Having a problem in one area can create a problem in another area. Make sure you do regular inspections and look for abnormal wear on the trailer.
Uneven or irregular tire wear can affect the life and performance of your tires if you let it. Common causes are due to incorrect air pressure in tires over inflated tires are just as bad as under inflated tires. Improper tire balance can cause the tire to wobble and over a period of time it will cause a vibration. If you like to hit curbs and have bent wheels then you might be in trouble. Bent wheels can cause vibration and affect the wear on your tires as well. Make sure you have your tires aligned properly this will help increase the life of the tire. Some common wear patterns we see are excessive wear on one shoulder. Another common pattern problem we see is called scalloping or otherwise known as feathering this is when all the tread blocks on one shoulder develop a single wear pattern in which one block ends up being higher then the other leading a set of raised edges on the leading or trailing edge of each block. Listen for noises this will be the tell tale sign that you might have issues.
Some tires wear more in the center due to overinflation, some will wear on both shoulders due to underinflation. A bent wheel or belt on the inside can cause spot wear. A wobble from side to side as the wheel spins is typically an alignment issue and can cause lateral wear. If you suspect you have uneven wear give us a Call 217-531-1836
